The first session lasts 90 minutes. We
will discuss your health history, current conditions, and the reasons
that brought you to Rolfing. This is a time to set goals for your experience,
answer any additional questions you may have, and further explain the
Rolfing process.
You will then dress down to your underwear or
to your comfort level (shorts and a t-shirt). Together we will begin to
assess your structure as you stand and as you walk. The majority of the
session will take place with you lying on a massage table as I begin to
loosen the initial layers of restrictions in your body. For the first
session these layers often include neck, hips, ribs, and the back.
Periodically,
I will have you rise up from the table and come to standing or walking
to notice how your body is incorporating the changes. For example, we
might work the left side of your body first so that when you stand you
can feel the difference compared to the your right. I will
always solicit your awareness and encourage your participation in the
Rolfing process. Awareness around the changes in your body allows you
to increase the benefits of the work as you integrate them into your
daily life. Your increasing awareness of limiting old movement patterns
creates the opportunity for new ways of moving in your body that are
supportive and pain-free. Most clients experience relief, a decrease in
their pain, and improved alignment after one session.
The
Rolfing Series was created to support sustainable structural change
through whole body alignment. Each session focuses on a different part
of the body building on the results of the previous session. Sessions
are typically spaced 1 to 4 weeks apart and an average series consists
of 8 to 12 sessions. All sessions after the first last 75 minutes. |
